Your help would be appreciated because it's getting worse.

Car: 1986 M5 140k miles FSH I bought it 10K miles ago and have had no other problems.

Fault: The engine cuts out. If I lift the throttle it sometimes seems to firing again, only to cut when I touch the throttle. I've tried knocking the engine management unit and everything under the bonnet I can reach, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. I loosened off a fuel line and there appeared to be lots of pressure (it spurted out, BTW I know the scavenge pump is U/S). If I leave it for a short while, it will restart and then stop again for a few seconds. After 5 minutes of doing this it will run fine for the rest of the journey.
So far it has only done this within a couple of minutes of starting the engine (hot or cold). If the engine has run for 5 minutes, it will carry on running for hours with no problem. It only started happening a month ago but is getting more of a pain.
I can't see the use of taking it to a garage since they won't be a ble to find anything when it's running properly.

Any bright ideas ?

I'd rather try and sort it out now, than wait untill I'm late going somewhere and end up being stranded.

Your help, as ever, is appreciated.

Thanks
Paul
