I’ve mentioned this before, the M5 has a heavier duty diff (from the seven series) identified by the drain plug in the casting on the left rather than in the backcover. The euro M535I also has the heavier diff but its 3.07 ratio. The backcovers are different because the heavy duty diff is quite a bit larger and about 30 pounds heavier.
I know because I have both and the big one is nearly too heavy for one person to handle safely. It also is good because it puts more wait in the back where it is needed.
The 3.07’s are common in the U.K and could be converted to 3.71 with a crown wheel and pinion for the M5.
