FWIW, Crank, matching rods and pistons are commonly referred to as reciprocating assys-as I stated. Its only meant to be a starting point if you cannnot find an entire motor. You could easily inspect all of these parts and ID bad parts before you ever assembled them. For $300 (or less if they don't sell at auction), its gonna be tough to get really burned. Obviously, an entire good motor would be ideal but tough to come by. However, it may actually be more difficult to find a good M5 cylinder case or two piece head alone.

Richard,

It seems Scott misread the ebay listing. The seller is only selling the stock crankshaft, rods and pistons from his engine.

However, periodically the engine and transmission you are looking for can be found here.

Scott is right with his advice to beware. I would insist that the seller provide you with results from a leakdown test and guarantee them before purchasing anything.

I bought an engine and transmission that was advertised on the internet to replace a tired unit in my '88 M5. Just before installing it I decided to compression and leakdown test it.

The motor was shot and the transmission required rebuilding. Learn from my costly mistake.

Douglas
