Is it lowered? What size jack is it? Really big? Or is it small enough to lift with one arm?

I have both kinds. I usually use them without the saddles. To jack up just the front, I have to use the tire jack on one side. Once it's up about 6-8", then I slide the floor jack under the center of the front subframe and jack it up.

To jack up the whole car, I prefer to use the floor jack under the frame rails under the driver/passenger seat areas. I put the jack under the rail, toward the rear, and I jack up the whole side of the car, just enough to get the stands under the car. I put jackstands under the front of the rail and under the rear subframe lower reinforcement plate. I will never put the jackstands under the rear subframe--that's a quick way to tear the rubber mounts. Then I jack up the other side to the desired height and put the stands in. Then I go back to the first side and jack it up to match the second.

Sound like a lot of work, eh? You'll need a lift to make it easier. This is the safest and easiest way that I've found. I use this technique on every BMW I own, which includes a 535, M5, and M3.

Cheers
James
