I have an 88 M5 with a bad transmission. Does anyone know if there are any problems with replacing it with a 265. I looked in then archives and it appears that it bolts right up with no other mods. However is there a down side to this? Preformance issues?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

There are 2 different 265 boxes, a 265/5 and a 265/6. The 265/5 is a close ratio and the 265/6 is an overdrive. The overdrive boxes are of course much more common and will noticably affect acceleration. Some 265's also only have one receptacle in the housing for a transmission mount, so you may run into problems mounting it.
