The M5 is going through a midlife crisis, at 130K miles it is time to drop a few bucks into the thing or let it go. Decided over the weekend that I still love the car (so does SWMBO) and keeping it is the correct choice. Decided yesterday that a Racing Dynamics stroker crank and rods (looking for the pistons)is also the correct choice... I am going to collect all the parts I need for a stroker motor rebuild over the next few months and attack the black beast during the summer.
The first thing I need is a decent engine manual. I will do most of the bluprinting and assembly work myself. I have assumed that the lower end specs are pretty close to a 2v 3.5 but have no idea what it takes to do the upper end work on an S38 properly. Without a proper manual I am reluctant to even do the cam chain.... Does anyone have blueprint specs for an S38. Is there a source for this info ?
This is also an open call for advice on an S38/2 buildup. The car is my daily driver so I don't want radical cams and such but I do want a streetable tractable 350 or so horsepower. I don't thing this is out of line. I will trade peak horspower for better low end torque, thus the stroker crank.
Who has done this and can talk from experience ?
