I ran through some numbers today and it looks like its going to be very difficult to keep my M5.

Heres the story. My harmonic balancer has come off again. So at a minimum, i need to replace the crankshaft. Thats going to be alot for the parts to rebuild the bottom end, and even more for the labor, which i am not equipped or really qualified to do myself.

Hey Matt i've got a m5 motor for sell or would be interested in your car.

Given all that, it might just be cheaper to do a motor swap. Which will also be too expensive for me to cover. It might turn out that I swap the motors, tear mine down, and see that its pristine and I've just had bad luck. Or it might turn out that my motor is junk (even though i have no reason to think that it is, it runs great when its not spewing crank hubs).

Problem is, either of these is throwing more money at it. I'm tired of throwing money at it.

Is there any market for an E28m5 that needs some help ? Could I get 9k out of a car that only needs someone competant with a new crank to be in great running order ?

I've taken care of as many things as I can afford as they've cropped on this vehicle, but i think this is going to be the one that does me in...

So, im open to possible solutions/costing scenarios. If someone wants to buy my car off me as-is, im listening. If someone has a good price on what i need to get the car running, im all ears. Either way, I don't think I can afford to hold onto the car. I feel like its _almost_ there.. get the new crank and the frank fahey part installed, then tackle putting a less restrictive exhaust on the car, and i'd be set. But i dont think i can swing either of those.
