I also have an M5. I am just curious how you "estimated" the 300 hp figure. The K&N and the Jim C. chip are not going to boost you hp by 50 hp. Forget all the hype from Dinan and Jim C. about 40+ hp gains. My M5 just had a complete engine rebuild with 282 Schrick cam, Dinan chip, Dinan camsprocket and a BB-Tri Flow exhaust. We even took the catalytic converter off and put in a by-pass pipe and we still haven't got 300 hp.

The claims that Dinan and Jim C. make about their chips are baloney. I have used Dinan, Jim C., and Autothority and none of them felt even close to 40-45 hp gains. At most the chips improve throttle response and move the power band down lower with more usable torque. At most you might be getting an extra 25 hp but no way are you getting 50+ hp.

I know a lot of you on this board will definitely argue this point but I have the facts from a friend who had his M5 engine rebuilt by the Power Plant and he had the engine dynoed on a engine dyno (much more accurate than a chasis dyno). He used the stock chip, Dinan chip, and Jim C chip and also adjusted various other engine parameters. The most he got out of the engine was in the 270-280 hp range.

Good luck!!!
