I did it, and plugged the hole w/ the pass through/bag assembly from an e32.
Take out the rear seat back, cut the cross bar as it will be in the way. Unseam the leather flap at the top. I put snaps on it to make the flap replaceable.

Has anyone ever cut away the center portion of the back seat panel so that you can fit skis through the armrest portion? My old Volvo used to have this feature, where there was a velcro fastener with a flap about 6" across and 10" deep so that you could lower the armrest and then slide your skis into the car. This would save big bucks on a ski rack, allay worries about insecure skis, and save the trouble of installing/uninstalling the ski rack, and save the gas on the wind resistance.

My concern is that it would affect the stabilization of the car, since it is unibody; I looked, however, and it didn't appear that there were any "supporting members" in the back seat.

Thanks.
