I believe there is a factory ski-pass through option on our cars. I've only seen it on the european ETK....let me check....

Yep, the part number is:
72 60 1 949 536

Talk to Paul @ Maximillian about ordering. The ETK says it's still available.

As for cutting the hole, I don't know the exact procedure since I don't have the TIS for this ETK. But it probably amounts to cutting and then modifying the existing components (rear seat armrest, trunk paneling, etc).

Hope this helps.

Has anyone ever cut away the center portion of the back seat panel so that you can fit skis through the armrest portion? My old Volvo used to have this feature, where there was a velcro fastener with a flap about 6" across and 10" deep so that you could lower the armrest and then slide your skis into the car. This would save big bucks on a ski rack, allay worries about insecure skis, and save the trouble of installing/uninstalling the ski rack, and save the gas on the wind resistance.

My concern is that it would affect the stabilization of the car, since it is unibody; I looked, however, and it didn't appear that there were any "supporting members" in the back seat.

Thanks.
