I'm guessing that a thorough cleaning of the linkage pivots and cleaning/relubing the motor would help. They never were lightning fast to begin with. You'll have to remove the access panel which is kind of a pain in the butt. Clean the motor commutator with some super-fine grit silicon-carbide paper, like 800 grit. Clean the bushings and relube. Clean all pivots and relube. Avoid any lubricants that stink. Fresh air runs through there into the passenger compartment.
