Don't forget to check voltage at the motor while it's running, compare it to battery voltage. Also check for any votage at the motors ground lead, if any exists there, you need to repair the ground (voltage drop).

I'm guessing that a thorough cleaning of the linkage pivots and cleaning/relubing the motor would help. They never were lightning fast to begin with. You'll have to remove the access panel which is kind of a pain in the butt. Clean the motor commutator with some super-fine grit silicon-carbide paper, like 800 grit. Clean the bushings and relube. Clean all pivots and relube. Avoid any lubricants that stink. Fresh air runs through there into the passenger compartment.
