My E28 M5 refuses to start. Sorry for the long post but I wanted
to give you a little background on the problem.
It all started a couple of wks when one morning the engine
would turn but the car refused to start. The battery weakened
after several tries & I figure that the problem may be related to
a weak battery. I installed a new battery & nothing. I tested for
spark, fuses but everything seem to be OK. I get in the trunk &
had somebody turn the ignition on a few times & I can't hear
the pump in the gas tank initializing, so it must be the fuel pump
right?
Since I had to get to work, I had her towed to my BMW shop,
tried to start it again when we got there but nothing. Later on
in the afternoon, the mechanic gets in the car & it starts fine,
they check the fuel system & fuel pump & it checkes fine.
The veredict is that there was a strong gas smell when he
started the car so the system may just have flooded, total
bill between new battery, towing & testing, $300.
Since then the car has started fine 'til yesterday morning when
it ran for a couple of seconds after I started it & then it died.
Same thing, the engine turns but it won't start. Also, the car
has all of a sudden died on me twice since the 1st incident,
the engine just cut off for a few seconds & then it restarted
fine. Lights & radio stayed on, so I don't think it's electrical.
I say the tank fuel pump but I'm not a expert mechanic, any
suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Luis
