That having been said, Cory, I think the only way to justify an e28 M5 is to be in love with the cars. There are certainly more practical, even exciting options (as you point out), however, for me, there just isn't any car I would rather have. I might also point out that while keeping an old M5 in good shape is an expensive proposition, given some patience, research, and know-how, it really isn't as bad as many portray it. The most important thing is that you know exactly what you are getting into when you pick a specific M5. Given the economic circumstances you pointed out, I would recommend you be patient and pay a premium for the nicest, lowest mileage M5 you can find (if you skip the SCed VR6- which sounds pretty cool to me anyways :})
