It's actually about the diameter of a dime or penny, it fits snugly inside the knuckle, and I used a bit of silicone spray to lube it. The pin fits very tightly into the new knuckle, while it just slips into every other one I've seen in the past few years. Yes, you do have to compress the new foam spacer a bit, and it makes it a pain in the butt to slide the pin in there. It took me about 5 minutes, but it can take much longer. I got lucky, I guess. I'd rather be lucky, than good!

I should have replaced the selector shaft seal, but I figure that I'll have to take something apart soon enough (it never ends), so I didn't go back to the dealer. It's easiest to replace the seals with the tranny out of the car--minimizes chance of damaging the seals and surfaces.
