Josh, I think you're obsessed with this E28 vs. ponycar thing. Do you have a friend with a Mustang or Camaro that talks a lot of smack or something?

As I remember, the E28 M5 cleaned up on the top-line Mustangs and Camaros of its day in all performance categories. Maybe the 5.7-liter Camaros were close as far as straight line speed, and they handled pretty damn well, but not to the M5 level.

However, even the top of the line Mustang or Camaro were THIRTY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS less expensive than the M5. They weren't in anywhere near the same category. Try comparing the M5 to a Corvette, and you're getting a little closer price-wise.
