I am looking to buy an e28 M5 and have had it checked by a reputable tech. He stated the compression was fine @ 150 - 155. He states that this is the specification in the BMW manual. Everything else on this board states it should be 175-185? Please clarify. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Yes those numbers seem a little low....... but if all the cylinders are within 10% it's probably OK.

Every compression gauge I've ever used varies by at least 10-20psi. So it could be the gauge, or how he tested it.... (tired battery/throttle closed?/ engine cold or hot?)

It does make a difference....
