It was explained to me by soneone who knows (sorry, I apologize in advance because I now have quite forgotten who it was) that the level sensor on the S38 was an afterthought and is poorly positioned. In spirited driving situations it is very willing to false-alarm.

In normal driving it tells you when you are about 1 liiter low, and won't shut up until you've thoroughly corrected the situation, so do pay attention there. But in autocross or track conditions, when you have recently checked the level, it's just an annoyance.

You are correct. It is the oil level light in the overhead panel that is coming on and NOT the oil pressure light. (*WHEW!*) I guess I just didn't realize the difference. Is there anything that should be done to keep the oil LEVEL light from coming on or is it OK so long as the oil PRESSURE light doesn't come on? Thanks!

The oil *LEVEL* light coming on (in the overhead warning light panel) is common in the situation you cite. But if your oil pressure light is coming on, something's wrong. Like a I say, the S38 engine oil pan already has the baffle in it. Perhaps something's wrong with the pickup.
