Problem removing ball joints!!!! (archive)

Anyone have any tricks on how to remove the nuts on a ball joint that is loose? I have the nut almost off the theads, but it popped out of the joint and now the whole threaded shaft is spinning in the balljoint. I tried clamping it back together is tight as I could and whacking it with a hammer to try and reseat it but no luck. Anybody have any tricks??
