'88 528e ECU substitute (archive)

Does anyone know if the ECU from another BMW be substituted for the one in an '88 528e?

Its giving a bad oxygen sensor error code even after the sensor was replaced. I had removed and opened the ECU to check for a bad solder joint in order to fix a engine hesitation (almost stall) problem. (as somehere here had suggested). Now the engine idles rough and runs rich.

Any suggests?
