Steve-
It's likely you haven't gotten any responses because this subject comes up once or twice a month on this board so the members who provide really useful insight get sick and tired of repeating themselves all the time. So since this board was so helpful to me when I was shopping for mine last October/November, I'll do my best to keep up the good karma. I attached a link below to a post I thought was so useful I actually printed it and put it in my M5 file for future reference. Many will tell you you are nuts to even consider buying one if you cannot work on it yourself, since maintenance costs add up quickly. I will say that after studying up so much while looking for the right car I am surprised I went through with it. I am no mechanical genius and don't even have a proper place to do my own work so have just found a reliable/knowledgeable mechanic who I trust to work on it when it needs it and just have to live with the higher repair bills. If you are handy, all the better.
Good luck in the search. I have certainly enjoyed mine during the six months I have owned it.
Brian
