I've also found better performance and gas mileage from Sunoco 94 octane gas. I noticed reduced mileage and performance from Exxon. My two choices would be Sunoco and Amoco.
My brother's M5 has a Dinan chip, and he has flat spots in the mid-rev range, too. Jim C is the only chip tuner that reprograms at all throttle angles and engine speeds, not just at full throttle like Autothority and others. There were stories on Russ Wiles' M3 site detailing how a standard (off-the-shelf) E36 M3 Jim C chip outperformed personally custom tuned chips from Autothority and Dinan on a back-to-back dyno test.
Make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks from the myriad of rubber hoses on the intake. Also, the throttle pivots have been known as a source of vacuum leaks. Have your injectors cleaned or run a bottle of BG44K, Techron, or Red Line Fuel injector cleaner. All are BMW approved. Check operation of the fuel transfer pump and fuel pressure regulator. Change the fuel filter if necessary. Have the CO ouput checked and reset the base idle if needed.

I finally want to upgrade my 88 M5 DME. But it's my daily driver, will never go to the track, all I really want is to get rid of that awful flat spot around 3000 rpm. Who makes a chip that will help the low end mostly, 2000-3500 range? And are there any potential long-term health consequences for my engine? Experienced opinions would be appreciated.
