It sounds like the Throttle Position Switch is not set correctly. You should be able to inspect it using the same technique to check any TPS. Good luck.

I'm hoping someone might have some suggestions for my problem. My '88 M5
has about 40K miles on a dealer rebuilt motor. It has a Dinan chip, cam
timing gear changed and K&N air filter. Otherwise no other mods. For
about a month now it has been idling rough and the engine, upon
acceleration, is not as responsive as it used to be. It's as if the the
accelerator has a "flat" spot for the first 1/4 to 1/2 inch of travel.
When I first step into the trottle the engine doesn't rev or pull like
it used to.

When it was running well the slightest opening of the throttle brought
instant revs and acceleration. Remedies tried so far: various gas
treatments to clean the injectors and cleaning air filter. Neither of
these brought any results. I checked the plugs and they're clean in good shape.

I don't want to bring it into the shop ($$$) for something that I might
be able to fix myself. Any suggestions on where to start
looking/checking greatly appreciated. Thanks.
