If you use the M5 upper perches, the smaller diameter 535i springs will not fit correctly. You can get used 535i perches from a junkyard for next-to-nothing. They may make you buy the whole spring/shock assembly, but that shouldn't be expensive, either. Or you can get new ones from the dealer, part number 33 52 1 126 680. There are 2 upper rubber rings listed, one for regular, one for "red" springs (M-Technic, I believe). Parts are 33 52 1 124 507 for regular, 591 for red springs.

Just went through this on my M5. The PO replaced the shocks with HDs all around, and used the SLS rear springs and upper perches. The lower perch was a Bilstein part that fit the SLS spring perfectly. But the ride height was too low in the rear because the SLS springs are much shorter.

I got a pair of used rear 535i springs and shocks complete from a junkyard to make sure I got all the parts necessary. I had to get lower perches for the HD shocks from Bilstein in California. The car now has 535i rear springs, upper and lower perches, rubber pads, and bump stops. I set the HDs to full high, and the rear still sits lower than a stock 535i. I guess this is due to the increased weight of the M5. The front looks jacked-up.
