cruise control inoperable (archive)

Any help available for my cruise control? The unit does not work and did not work when the car was purchased several months ago. Fuses are o.k., removed operating switch from the steering column for inspection and could see nothing wrong. The switch moves as it is supposed to, I do not know the testing procedure for this piece, any help is appreciated. Thank You
