Yesterday, on my drive home from work in North Philadelphia, I was cut out hard (in my e28 ///M5) on Broad Street by a new Chrysler sedan (Don?t know what model, I don?t know anything about modern Chrysler products except the Viper). I hit the horn and brakes (the first time I ever felt the ABS kick in, in the dry), and managed to avoid him. The next light, he lowered his window, and asked me if I had a problem. I smiled and said "You cut me out pretty bad back there" he looked at me and said "Nobody hit your *#@!ing car", and he blew through the red light. A couple blocks later, I was next to him again, and he tried to hit my car twice. I went into the center turning lane and hit the accelerator to get away. He followed me 2 miles down Broad Street, and on to Cheltenham Avenue. I tried to lose him at a couple traffic lights, but he just blew through them. I turned to go on Route 309 (highway), and he turned too. I made it look like I would take the first exit to Glenside, but stayed on 309 at the last second. He followed, and I started to get nervous. I removed my .357 Magnum (I am licensed to carry) from my belt bag, and put it in the door pocket so I could get to it quickly. I accelerated quickly up to 120 mph and he fell back a little, but stayed right behind me. Time for some real evasive action. I floored the accelerator, and watched him shrink in my rear view mirror, but this highway is less than 10 miles so I wanted to make some distance. I looked down at the speedometer at one point, and saw a registered 160+MPH (I know it can?t be accurate), and kept on the gas. I usually stay in my lane, but this time was different, so I weaved through traffic at ridiculous speeds until the end of the highway. I felt like I was filming the next movie for BMWfilms.com, I would call it Runaway. Sitting on the exit ramp was a State cop with the lights on. I thought I was screwed, but hoped the story would help. He wasn?t there for me and already had another car pulled over. I pulled into a Sunoco station a block later, that usually has a police car parked there, to catch my breath and wait and see if the Chrysler was still following. I never saw him, and I am not taking Broad Street during rush hour for a while. I have more fun on Kelly & Lincoln Drives anyway, so what if it takes an extra 10 minutes each way for my commute.Erik Rutberg
