Well, first off, E12 is 1st generation 5 series..
(1975-1981.. http://www.firstfives.org) and E28 is 2nd generation 5 series (1982-1988).

The M5 was only ever made for the E28s. However, there was an M535i for both the E12 and E28 cars.

Only the E28 M5 got the 24v motor and individual throttles, iirc.

You should visit http://www.m535i.org

I UNDERSTAND THE MAJOR DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE E12 AND THE E28 IS THAT THE LATER IS A TWIN CAM VERSION.
IS THAT THE ONLY MAJOR DIFFERENCE?
ARE THEY BOTH STILL CONSIDERED TO BE M5's? (TALKING ABOUT A 1986 BMW M535)
ANYONE KNOW ANY OTHER MAJOR DIFFERENCES?

PLEASE EXCUSE MY IGNORANCE, I'M NEW TO THE CLUB

BEN
