Use a toothpick/ pop-sicle stick (don't scratch the paint) and pry it away from the body. It's only held in by two friction fittings. No need to gain access to the underside.

OK, the Roundel for the hood is easy enough. However, as all E28 M5 owners know, access to the rear Roundel is blocked by the trunk liner. How can I gain access to the mountings for the rear Roundel so that it can be replaced? Thanks!
