My M635 engine was rebuilt in 1990.

Work included new main and big end bearings, new piston ring set (block did not require rebore), new timing chain tensioner (but surprisingly no new chain), all gaskets head set head bolts, two new inlet valves etc. Unit was repaired IN THE CAR by BMW main dealer total cost £2800. This was done at 78k miles

Piston ring set was the most expensive part at £990 for a full set of six.

At 152k miles timing chain, sprockets, guides were done - total about £1300

Ian

I priced one from the local BMW dealership in Atlanta for an M6 it was $17,500 which includes the $2000 core charge. I good rebuild will be about $8000 to $9000.
