There are many after market wheels for the E28 M5. One of the more common after market wheels are the E34 M5 M System wheels. The forged M System wheels are made up of several components. Introduced in 1991, the M System wheel used pressure cast magnesium alloy "turbine" cover and In 1993 the "throwing star" cover was introduced as factory equipment on the E34 M5. These covers accounted for almost 25% percent of additional cooling to the M5s massive brakes. Underneath the covers is five spoke forged wheel that is a perfect match for the E28 as it uses the same 20mm offset, centerbore and bolt pattern as the factory E28 M5 wheel. No additional spacers or hubcentric rings are needed to fit the E34 M5 wheels on the E28. Below is a photograph of Rob Levinson's gorgeous E28 M5 wearing M System II wheels.
Another wheel that is becoming more and more used on the E28 is the E39 540i radial spoke sport wheel (Style 32) and the 528i Cross spoke bolted, composite wheel wheel
(Styling 5) However to install the BMW E39 sport style wheels on an e28 chassis hubcentric rings are needed as the centerbores are different. The E39 chassis has a centerbone measurement of 74 while the e28 has a center bone measurement of 72.5 The E39 sport style wheels look great on the E28 and can be had for relatively comparable prices to Momo, Mille Miglia, TSW, Borbet etc. wheels.
