Get the mechanicals checked THOROUGHLY by a good M-car shop. Valve adjustments, engine rebuilds, parts, tranny rebuilds, et al are extremely expensive on the E28 M5.

Drive it. Check for grinding tranny, thumping on accel around 20-30 MPH (driveshaft), exhaust leaks, stumbling on accel, surging on accel, operation of AC, etc. Feel the steering, step on the brakes lightly at speed to feel for warped rotors, have the calipers checked for bad dust seals--mine seized a piston after a while, PITA to rebuild!!

Since it's so nice externally, you'd expect it to be mechanically perfect. If that is the case, then $7000 is a SUPER STEAL!! Sounds almost too good to be true. Be careful. If everything checks out, BUY IT WITHOUT HESITATING!!!
