88 M5 starts cold, runs fair, after about 1 min it either smoothes out or stops dead. This problem has gotten worse over past 2 weeks. I was thinking fuel pump was on the way out, but this was wrong ($113 bad diagnosis by lazy mechanic who did not check fuel pressure after car stalled (me!)) Anyway, tonight I will dig into this... Have tools and lots of experience, but I would appreciate some advice from anyone who has experienced same. TIA, Mark
Check the main relay in the glove box. It could also be a bad connection in the DME.
My car started randomly dying last year; one day it quit and wouldn't restart. I replaced the main and fuel pump relays and had a mechanic check the crank sensor. No spark, but everything checked out so I looked at the DME. I thought about getting it rebuilt ($400-$500), but someone suggested redoing a couple of solder joints on the DME circuit boards so I tried that. Success!
