I am getting a whining noise from my car and have replaced the fan clutch, waterpump and altenator bearings but yet the noise remains, after a little more expermentation I have noticed the noise is absent when I run the car for short periods of time without the fan and fanclutch, the fanclutch is new so that leaves the fan however I have barrowed a fan from a friends 535i and the noise is still preasent with his fan and clutch, so my Question is if anybody has had a similar problem with whining fan noise in hot climates or if anybody has any suggestions as to what would cause this if not, Use a V belt spray to diagnose the belt that is causing the problem.
Make sure the pulley alignment is good. Use a straight edge to check pulley alignment.
Make sure you have a quality belt. I like ContiTech. I have had problems with Goodyear belts whining.
Make sure the belts are not too lose or too tight. Either can make the belts squeal!! Use a belt tension gauge.
The alternator has rubber bushings which can fail and allow the alternator pulley to get out of alignment.
If the pulleys have been out of alignment for some time the pulleys will wear and they will not grip the belt when they are realigned. Replace the pulleys if they look warn.
When all else fails Reolace the pulleys and belts.
