Is It Possible To Fit A 3.5l Single Cam in an M5? (archive)

If my M5 motor ever went, I would like to replace it with a standard 3.5 litre motor from a 535i/535is. I know this is a sick thought, but I would just want to know if it has been done, or if it is possible.
