Ok guys, I need some help here. It seems that my search for an M car has come to an end. I must decide between an 88 M5 or a 95 M3. I love the 88 M5 because of it's classic styling and enthusiate feel. The M3 feels more refined and balanced. Give me your opinions. I love to have one of each, but can't afford it.

Jim, you already are an E28 enthusiast, so this should be easy. :-)

From what I've seen/heard about the E36 M3, they're just not built as well as the E28s were. Lots and lots of little problems, and some big ones (shifter problem contributing to overrevs and dead engines, for one.)

The 3 series, even the M cars, simply are not on par with the 5 series. Go for the M5, and you'll have a timeless classic that will go like stink and turn heads forever. Buy an E36 M3, and you'll blend into the crowd.

Have you read the BMW Car article that was posted under "Interesting Read" in this forum? Definitely do so before making your decision.

My $.02-
