Valve lash noise usually gets worse as the engine warms up ( the clearaces increase as it heats up). Best guess is piston slap or timing chain and or tensioners. If it is tensioners or chain ,fix it quickly or get ready to spend big money when it breaks......

Car has 70k miles and has had a relatively easy life (no track, no winters, etc) Seems a bit early for t/c to need replacement? I thought the magic # was 100k?
