BMW now say max. 4 year's or 40.000 kilometers,
My M5 only did 59.000 km. before the chain give up.
If there is any noise from the chain: STOP the engine and change the lower small gear wheel, hydraulic chain extensioner and the chain.

BMW M5 E28 286hp, engine whith number M88.
There is only a single chain.
In the new model, there is a double chain and gear-wheel.
