from what i've seen, 2875370 was the highest VIN of the US spec M5s. mine is near that with an 11/87 production number. speculation is... the bodies came off the dingolfing assembly line then... the very end of E28 production. the production date relates to the body assembly... but the cars were completed by hand by teams of two workers at the M facility in Garching outside of munich. So... it is possible that the final assembly of many of these cars was much later than Nov '87. US BMW dealers were still selling them well into 1989 calendar year.
