happened to me and it turned out to be my gauge, replaced it and it was fine

my temperature gauge is completely off, or rather doesnt work at all, except during VERY spirited driving it flickers and flutters some but thats about it. i went to bmw to get a temp. sender and recieved a two prong much-longer-then-what-is-in-my-car sender, that doesnt fit at all. as well as the sender in my car being a single prong, which i thought the senders were, as i was told. but maybe this could be the problem. i bought the car a while ago and havent driven it enough to notice it didnt work until recently. any help would be greatly appreciated. also looking for a full e28 m5 interior if anyone knows where i can get one.. take it easy everyone and thanks again for the help.. ;)
