I had the same problem on my 88m5 -
your shop is correct, as are all of the follow-ups. If you replace the rotors it will seem like new for 10-15K until it happens again. If you replace the rotors AND oem thrust arm bushings you may have 20-40K until the problem reoccurs. I'm not going for an upgrade because $400 every couple years isn't too bad, and because I could break my ribs with the stock brakes!

I have 60,000 miles on '88M5. Have front end shimmy at about 60-65mph with definite pulsating when braking at higher speeds. My shop says front end is fine but rotors are warped. I drive car about 3M per year. Do I really need 7 series rotors or will stock set do ok? If 7 series rotors are used which brake pads do I use? Thanks for any help for this tech challenged owner!
