New to board and have question. I am considering buying an '88 M5 that is located in Canada. I have never bought anything from Canada much less a car. Does anyone have experience importing a vehicle from Canada to the states and can share information with me such as clearing customs and tax info. Anything would be great...thanks, Greg

Call B.M.W. Canada @ (905)-683-1200 and talk to Michel Paquet ( customer service co-ordinator ) You will need to povide the VIN # for the car you are exporting. He will send you a letter within 2 weeks stating if the car meets ALL EPA and DOT regulations. If it does you need THIS document, The odd looking Canadian title, and the bill of sale, all must be filled out completely before you reach customs. When you get to the border you will most likely be interrogated for about a 1/2 hour as to why your bringing their vehicle into the U.S.A. Oh!!! you will also need about $300. for duty taxes. Without a letter from Canada BMW stating that the car FULLY complies you probably won't be able to title it, which means you will be regulated to driving it on the track only. Hope I've injected the amount of reality you needed to help you along. Good Luck, John
