What year M5 are you looking for? 1985-1987 (1988 in the US) was the E28 M5. 1989-1995 (1991, 1993 in US) was the E34, and 1998+ (2000+ in US) is the E39. What year do you want?

If you're thinking about the E39 M5, you can find one used, but you never know if it was broken in properly. ANY used car, no matter what, get compression and leakdown tests performed on the engine.

I'd imagine you want a 2000+ M5. Go to the E39 M5 board. They will have more answers there.

Good luck
JamesM
