Hot at idle COULD be caused by poor fuel combustion (running lean). Remember idle conditions are different than normal operation. I have an M635 and have just cleaned out the bleed valves on each throttle body - they were really crappy. My problem was insufficient air suuply for idle conditions resulting in high CO emmissions, a low idle speed and COLD exhaust conditions. The converse would be true (i.e. hot running at idle) if the mixture is lean - possible caused by a failing air flow meter or incorrectly adjusted bleed valve settings. Just for info...

Replaced the fan clutch and it didn't seem to have any effect. It does feel a little more firm than the one I replaced, but was apparently not the culprit as the car is still running hot at slow speeds. I guess the thermostat is next. Any other suggestions?

Thanks.
