Does your engine have the electronic air stabiliser valve. If so it should have a seperate idle control system. (Later motorinc version use the ECU for idle spped control).

The idle control system has an input from the A/C switch so it knows when the engine is being loaded and hence changes the fuelling to compensate. Best to check that the ECU is receiving this signal as your problem is at idle with the A/C on/off. Running lean can cause engine hot running.

Replaced the fan clutch and it didn't seem to have any effect. It does feel a little more firm than the one I replaced, but was apparently not the culprit as the car is still running hot at slow speeds. I guess the thermostat is next. Any other suggestions?

Thanks.
