Trip Computer MPG Inaccurate? (archive)

I've been checking my MPG by hand and my calculations, while they are acceptable, are several MPG BELOW the figure reported by the trip computer. Is the trip computer reliable? Does the fact that I have a Dinan chip installed affect the computations? Thanks.
