The M5 could probably tow the 2002 and trailer, but given the expensive transmission and the increased wear on it, I would not recommend it. The E28 M5, though more reliable than the E34, is essentially a sensitive machine and you don't want to put outside-design loads on it. As it is the transmission has a center bulkhead to reduce gearshaft repulsion in the transmission so you can imagine what more load will do to things in there.

Hello, and yes this is a serious question. I recently saw a local ad for a trailer hitch for sale that would fit an E28. Shortly after, I found a 1988 M5 for sale, and am wondering if the frame, engine, and transmission would be able to handle the strain of towing a 2002 vintage racer?
Thanks
