Bob:

Here are some prices for used parts:
1. Tranny, $2500
2. Wheels, $700-900
3. Interior, $600-1000
4. Front Airdam, $300-400

I think you'd be able to make your money back by parting it out over time as interiors are tough to ship and so on.

I just had a valve job done on my 92 and it was $640 for the whole thing. If you can do the assembly and disassembly yourself it could be a deal. About 200k miles is really the life for that engine. If the body is not rust or corroded underneath (fuel, brake lines, etc.) this could be a nice car. Else, it will just be a hassle and you'd end up putting in a lot of money (and labour) getting it to be a reliable runner.

I have found an 88 M5 that I can get for about $3000, but it is going to need a valve job, at least... Body is very good- all original. Interior needs a little help.. I know the engine can be a lot, but if I had to do you think I could part it and at least make my money back??
