You can remove the fan quite easily and clean it up. I cleaned my E30 fan the same way and ran it on the bench (directly off the battery) for a bit till it freed up.

If I were to replace it, I would get an aftermarket unit. My guess is they are better (progress) and they are certainly cheaper. Check http://www.airsource.com for some aux fans at decent prices and get the size you need.

The auxilary fan on my car moves very stiffly, like something is dragging in it. Sometimes, it doesn't turn at all and the fuse blows. Are these fan motors rebuildable? Anyone have a good source for new/used fan motors?
