One of my back doors does the same. I took the whole assembly out, disassembled, lubed, but little change. SO I assume the unit is permanently worn beyond repair. They aren't too expensive, $30 or so.

The "stay" assembly on my front driver door is dry and creaking when I open and shut the door. The lack of lubricant is causing the metal on the vertical side of the stay to wear.

I've tried a number of different lubricants (black grease, lithium grease, motorcycle chain lube), but nothing seems to last more than a week. How can I resolve this problem?
