I've been having problems for a while now with my '87 M6. The car was hard to start and would die randomly. I thought it might be the fuel pump or fuel filter, but the car dies very suddenly and sometimes violently regains power after a couple seconds of coasting powerless, so now I'm thinking that it is probably an electrical problem. After sitting for a couple weeks (with a trickle charger plugged in) I went to start it and the battery was dead. I'm not sure what could have drained it. I changed the battery but the car still will not start and I'm leaving it disconnected in case there is a drain. I replaced the fuel pump relay and the main relay today. Still won't start and sounds kinda funny when it's trying to start, like certain parts of the cycle are moving faster than others. Similar to how it sounds when you're battery is dying and has barely enough power to turn the engine over, except the battery is brand new so it's at a faster pace. I haven't checked the plug which connects the steering wiring to the rest of the car but I'm about to now. I heard that this can cause problems if the connection's bad. I just wanted to get this up ASAP so more people see it because I don't have much time to fix it before the bavarian auto show n' shine tomorrow. The car has less than 90k miles and has been very well maintained. Any ideas what this might be and how to fix it? Thanks again.
